Leave the busy Old Town behind and spend a creative morning in Thanh Ha Pottery Village, where clay, color and folk art come together in one experience. Instead of just watching a pottery demo, you’ll shape your own piece, craft playful figurines and explore Vietnam’s largest terracotta park.

Your tour begins in Hoi An, where you meet your English-speaking guide and travel by local boat along the Thu Bon River or by car (depending on conditions) to Thanh Ha Village. As you arrive, you’ll see why this community has been famous for pottery for hundreds of years.

First, you’ll meet local artisans and get a short introduction to the history and techniques of Thanh Ha pottery. Then it’s your turn: sit at a traditional foot-operated pottery wheel and, with patient guidance, try shaping a small bowl or cup. Don’t worry about perfection—this is about having fun with clay and understanding the craft with your own hands.

Next, you’ll switch from wheel to folk art. At a simple workshop table, you’ll create colorful little figurines inspired by traditional Vietnamese tò he—animals, flowers or tiny lanterns made from clay and decorated with bright colors. This second activity makes the tour especially engaging for families and creative travellers, and is something most standard pottery tours do not offer.

After your hands-on sessions, you’ll walk to the Thanh Ha Pottery Museum and Terracotta Park, home to terracotta replicas of famous landmarks and exhibits on pottery traditions from across Vietnam. Your guide will point out highlights and give you time to wander, take photos and enjoy the mix of art and landscape.

Throughout the morning, the pace is relaxed, with chances to chat with artisans, ask questions and take photos. Clay can be messy, but that’s part of the fun—wear something comfortable and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty.

After around 3,5 hours in total, you’ll return to Hoi An by boat or car with new skills, handmade souvenirs and a much deeper appreciation for Vietnam’s craft heritage.
